Discovering discarded treasure on the Upper West Side

In my many years of street finds in NYC, I never imagined that it could actually turn into an obsession.  I don’t quite know what’s come over me, but I find great pleasure in not only finding valuable items, but also creating beauty in what was once half destroyed.  About a month ago, I discovered a small gold mine of discarded objects that I felt had great potential.  In the next few posts, I will document the transformation of these and hopefully use them for another 10 – 20 years!

So there we were with the scooter and all, stumbling across this small treasure trove of discarded objects on Columbus Ave.  A large mirror, a wooden slat bar stool, some random plywood pieces… Trying to load everything up and get home with it all was challenging enough, but now, where to put it?  Here’s a photo of how we got everything home – luckily not too far away.

It’s amazing what one can do when filled with determination 🙂

Now onto the refinishing!
